II श्रीराम जय राम जय जय राम II

जो तू सेवक गुरून का, निंदा की तज बान I
निंदक तेरे आय जब, कर आदर सन्मान II

Those who speak ill of others help one become aware of his negativity, for one's weaknesses become magnified when criticised. If taken constructively, once aware of his weaknesses, one can do something about them. Thus, in a way, the person who talks ill about someone helps him remove his demerits. However, if one reacts negatively to the act of being criticised by someone, then obviously he has nothing to gain. In short, it all depends on how we react to being tarnished by anyone. The key would be to use it to see our shortcomings; and then remove them without any prejudice or partiality. On the other hand, one who speaks ill of others, the wretched fool, bears total loss.

"Kabir says, a disciple who obediently follows the teachings of his Guru will never speak ill of others. On the other hand thank your critic even if he sounds harsh and rude, for he is doing a great service to you magnifying your shortcomings and thus giving you an opportunity to improve."
