"Kabir says, the secret to happiness is helping others, for it is in giving that we receive. The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity. The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another. You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.Just like a river never turns dry no matter how much water is drawn from it, no one has ever become poor by giving."

कहै कबीर देय तू, जब लग तेरी देह I
देह खेह होय जाएगी, कौन कहेगा देह II

If you saw a man standing by the shore, and flinging gold coins and diamonds into the sea — you would say that he is insane. Yet God sees many people continually doing something very like this. Not gold and precious stones, do they throw away — but minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years of time — possessions which are of greater worth than any gems of earth!

"Kabir says, the stream we are floating down, slowly, inexorably, and beyond our control is … life. Perhaps this is what’s so disturbing about time. It refers to a now unreal past, a vanishingly short present, all while leading to a future that quickly disappears. You are not here by chance; you are here with a purpose. Everyone is born with a purpose. The common link to everyone’s purpose in life, are good deeds. The smallest good deed is better than the grandest intention. Our deeds determine us, as much as we determine our deeds. Our deeds are the seeds of faith sown on earth but bring forth their harvest in eternity. The acts of this life are the destiny of the next. Our deeds follow us, and what we have been, makes us what we are. It is our own past which has made us what we are today. We are children of our deeds.
We live in deeds not in years, in thoughts not in breaths. A life spent worthily should be measured by deeds and not by years."

You do not know what tomorrow will bring, for you are a mist that appears for a little time, and then vanishes. The magic fades too fast, the scent of a summer never lasts, for nothing remains....nothing lasts. A moment is not complete until you realise it is fleeting.

"Kabir says, just as when the rain falls from the sky in thick drops, a bubble appearing on water will quickly vanish and will not last long, so is human life like a water bubble. Observe the stars, millions of them twinkling in the night sky, for they suddenly become invisible as the sun rises. Just like the night sky is truly the life of stars, so is man's life, his time is a mere instant, his existence a flux."

बोली एक अनमोल है, जो कोई बोलै जानि I
हिये तराजू तौलि के, तब मुख बाहर आनि II

Words have weight, something once said cannot be unsaid. Meaning is like a stone dropped into a pool; the ripples will spread and you cannot know what back they wash against.
What we say has weight and power and that being conscious means being aware of how we use words. The more conscious we become, the more we deepen our relationship to the words we use so that we speak from a place of actually feeling what we are saying. We begin to recognize that words are not abstract, disconnected entities used only to convey meaning; they are powerful transmitters of feeling. When we carefully listen to others before we speak, our words have more integrity, and when we take time to center ourselves before speaking, we truly begin to harness the power of speech. Then our words can be intelligent messengers of healing and light, transmitting deep and positive feelings to those who receive them.

"Kabir says, our words carry enormous weight. More than sometimes we think. They often influence people for decades, giving either the courage to carry on or one more reason to give up. The realisation that words reflect what is in you empowers your language by consciously choosing positive words. We must choose words wisely. Words can break you or heal you. It’s totally depends on you how you use them. Always weigh your words before you speak, for the hurtful words are deep cuts in the heart. They may heal over time, but the scars never completely disappear."

You will be a pathfinder one day and excellence will run after you.

दोस पराए देखि करि, चला हसन्त हसन्त I
अपने याद न आवई, जिनका आदि न अंत II

We want to find faults in others, but not in ourselves. Due to our false ego-sense, instead of judging our own conduct, we commit the error of judging others. In other words, we are unaware of our own house being on fire, but we go out of our way to see if someone else's house is burning out there. Our inflated ego-sense is afraid to face the truth our inner mind would reveal to us — our shocking crookedness, perversions, weaknesses, shortcomings, corruption, ignorance, untruthfulness, selfishness, duality, fear, falsehood, and so on. Instead we find it easy and more pleasant to judge others and find faults with them. The feeling or urge of finding faults in others indicates that the seeds of that kind of faults or weaknesses are present within us, and we are trying to suppress them cutting off the heads of others. A Maya stricken ego-mind is like a fly that lands only on "filth": moral sores of others.

Kabir says, one who can constantly look within to examine and judge himself becomes the "real judge". He then sees "others" in "him" and "him" in "others".

"Kabir says, the rich are as vulnerable to death as poor. The death is inevitable to all who are born. However it's entirely in our hands to die rich or die poor, for everyone will leave a legacy. You will be remembered by how you lived. Whether it was good or bad, your legacy is the sum of who you are, the values you stand for, and the accomplishments you've made. The righteous live on through a legacy of good deeds and through the people they have positively affected during their lifetimes. The good deeds outlast our mortality. While those who have not found their way to forgiveness remain in the painful state of guilt and blame until their last breath, forgiving others and even forgiving yourself can be a tremendous healer. We each have to learn to find our own happiness within and create our own joy even when life hasn’t turned out to the be the way we hoped."

जहाँ दया तहाँ धर्म है, जहाँ लोभ तहाँ पाप।

"Kabir says, compassion is an intuitive response to someone else’s suffering, and is the very basis of Dharma, the balanced and compassionate way of life.

Greed is a slippery slope. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. Greed refuses to be satisfied. More often than not, the more we get, the more we want.

Anger doesn't solve anything. It builds nothing, but it can destroy everything. Anger is never without a reason, but seldom with a good one. So kill your anger before it kills you.

To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness. To err is human, to forgive is divine."

In reality, nobody can totally remove his or her ego for it’s instilled within all beings. In fact, it defines our relationship with ourselves and our world, essentially providing meaning to the self to insure survival, success, protection, procreation etc. However what we are asked by Kabir is to annihilate the negative aspect of the Bloated egotism, the false ego-sense where the conditioned mind identifies with the gross body-frame instead of its true nature. The negativity of false ego-sense converts one’s life into a battlefield. Its negative impact destroys inner beauty, goodness and auspiciousness. Killing the ego simply means killing that consciousness of “I, me, mine” which is the very center of our existence. Ego makes a man selfish, angry, greedy, overly attached to Maya, arrogant, and so on — the root of all trouble in the world. Only the complete surrender to the Guru destroys false ego-sense. We can take plunge now or just wait standing at the shore of This River. It is our choice. The River is always there, ready and willing to accept us and cleanse us, and take us to the Ocean within."

As long as one identifies with the body and the world of gross objects, there will be the constant fear of death and of losing one's possessions. Only the body-conscious person is afraid of death.
The nature of the body is to die. Any object that can be seen with our material eyes is bound to perish; it's just a question of time. This is the nature of material objects. No denying that one feels pain upon the death of his love ones. But what Kabir is trying to tell us here is that our pain is due to our emotional attachments - more attachments, more the pain and suffering. The one who laments over the death does so because of attachment. For the Living-liberated however life and death, joy and sorrows, pain and pleasure, etc., are all mere a world-play because he is already dead to the phenomenal world. Kabir urges us to learn and practice the art of death before its too late, else nothing can save us from being subjected to the endless suffering of birth, death and rebirth."

Just as the man who has understood the nature of the mirage will not run after the mirage for drinking water, so also, the Jeevanmukta (living liberated) will not run after sensual objects like the worldly-minded people, though the world appears to him. The liberated even while living, he lives in the world, but not of the world.

"Kabir says, the real death is to die while still alive: To become liberated-in-life, to become Jeevanmukta, to become liberated from bondage of worldly life while living in the midst of Maya. He alone is called liberated-in-life, from within whose false ego-sense is eradicated. It's the total abandonment of all mental conditioning, without the least reserve. In other words Kabir wants us to learn and practice the art of death, before we are overpowered by it."

कबीर सो धन संचे, जो आगे को होय।
सीस चढ़ाए पोटली, ले जात न देख्यो कोय।

You are not just for the right or left, but for what is right over the wrong. You are not just rich or poor, but always wealthy in the mind and heart. Your wealth is not defined by your capacity to accumulate, rather by your capacity to give away. The most valuable things in your life are always the things that money cannot buy. When we combine the idea of prosperity with an intention for our highest good and the highest good of all life, we create true wealth. A man's true wealth is the good he does in this world, for the righteous deeds are what will remain permanently with us — not one’s family or wealth. Empty handed we come in this world and empty handed we depart, yet the good deeds outlast our mortality. They are like monuments that people build to honor heroes after they've died. Only instead of being made of stone, they're made out of the memories people have of you.

"Kabir says, may we learn to fill our hearts with eternal possessions — that our legacy may live on to the next generation, not as people whose feats are to be praised, but as men and women whose faith in God, love and devotion to those around them cannot be forgotten."

In other words your mind is the willfulness that pushes the body to work. Where your mind goes your body follows.

"Kabir says, the worldliness has made we humans like a bird. Our bodies fly to where our minds lead us to. While the evil thoughts may compel us to do wrongdoings, those who sow courtesy reap friendship, and those who plant kindness gather love. Engage in good thoughts, and only good words and good deeds will follow. Our thoughts become our actions. Your words can have great impact on others and the world around you, but unfortunately, your emotions can lead you to say things you don’t mean or wish you could take back. Learning to pause and think about your words before moving them from thoughts to spoken words helps you to make different choices and choose words that better reflect your intention, your character and your values. अति का भला न बोलना, अति की भली न चूप I
अति का भला न बरसना, अति की भली न धूप II

Life is full of beautiful things. Some are good to eat, some are good to smell and some are good for health. But none is good if consumed in excess. The most delicious and nutritious food can be devoured only to a limit, after that it will cause discomfort. Money in excess is root cause of many evils. Exercise in excess can damage muscles. Child care in excess is called pampering and spoils the child. Sleep in excess produce laziness. Work in excess makes us workaholic. There is no place for excess in life. Life is beautiful if things are present in balance.

"Kabir says, excess of everything is bad. Doing any thing in moderation helps us to live a balanced life. Moderation is a commitment to balance. There are times when remaining silent makes it easier to listen and get to the flow of conversation. However there will still be times where a person needs to talk and not remain silent. Distance doesn’t separate people. Silence does. Perhaps too much of everything is as bad as too little. Just like excess rainfall is not good so is too much sunshine, be moderate to taste the joys of life in abundance."

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively use words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble. A life can be changed forever with as little as a single phrase or an uplifting word. The kind words are like honey–sweet to the soul. Words have power. Their meaning crystallizes perceptions that shape our beliefs, drive our behavior, and ultimately, create our world. You have the power to change your world, and using words consciously is one of the quickest ways to shift the energy you bring into your life.

"Kabir says, words are extremely powerful medium that we can use to uplift our personal energy and improve our lives and of those around us, though we’re often not conscious of the words we speak, read, and expose ourselves to. The soothing words you speak comfort not only you but also others who listen to you."

How very often we see people from almost every religion 'fiddling' with the rosary beads and reciting the name of God yet at the slightest provocation they swear and curse, without any hesitation, with the same 'twisting' tongue. We waste our entire life in performance of outer works of merits, but the soul finds no inlet. The veil within does not give way and soul remains without. We should therefore turn the bead of the mind, and it will act like a push-button giving an ingress of the soul to spiritual realms within. The true rosary lies in the mind, the rest is all sham and a worldly show. All such deeds are therefore of no avail. In vain is the rosary that loosens not the mind knot. While the untold treasure of divinity lies hidden within, we search for it without and so all our efforts go in vain."

साँई इतना दीजिए, जामें कुटुंब समाय I
मै भी भूखा ना रहूँ, साधू न भूखा जाय II

The world has enough to satisfy everyone’s needs but our greed is what is making the world fall short of things. A sense of saving up in a time of scarcity and spending in a state of abundance is natural. But the kind of greed which makes you feel like you can never have enough has become the biggest problem in the world. Humans have not learnt when to hit the pause button and that is taking a toll on our environment, their air and water around us, and everything else that is priceless, including our life. Desires lead to thoughts. You become part of the rat race. You start thinking that life would be easy when your desires are fulfilled instantly, but this only aggravates your worries and suffering, causing a sense of loss. Thus, your greed will always land you in losses. His birth gives man the opportunity to accomplish what he yearns for. But most people end up creating more unfulfilled desires which keep on lending them new births, making them go in circles.
So it is prudent not to look at life with greed. See greed wakefully. One day when wakefulness emerges, you will find that greed was nothing but unconsciousness. Remember life is not made of greed. We should plan to earn as much as is required for us to lead a life as per our free will and learn to sense the danger of greed and hit pause.

"Kabir says, we usually remember God and run to Him mostly, when we are in trouble. If He does not answer our prayers in “a timely fashion,” we accuse Him of being “cruel,” or “harsh,” even “non-existent.” He knows that as soon as He gives us what we want, we will leave Him on the shelf until our next time of need.
It is natural to turn to God when we experience troubled times but when life is just … life — with few obstacles and little drama — it can be easy to take God for granted. In the times when life has become blissfully quiet, there are still a million little things for which we can turn to God and say a simple, “Thank you.”
Rejoice always in all circumstances and pray without ceasing, for whether it is prosperity you enjoy or the hard times you face, both come from God. And both are for our good."

On the other hand laziness won't get you anywhere. Sloth is sinful. The slothfulness means laziness, sluggishness, or indolence which is the avoidance of activity or exertion. The slothful person is one who not only doesn’t want to work but is one who avoids it as well. This person may even go out of their way to avoid doing work. The reason why being slothful is a sin is because slothfulness is equated to waste. The waste amounts to wasted ability, wasted resources, and wasted time. When you add all of this up it equates to a wasted life."
