"Kabir says, the symbols of external appearances such as putting sacred marks on forehead, wearing necklace of beads are of no use in devotion. The devotion is the slender silken thread of pure love that binds the heart of the devotee to the lotus-feet of the Lord. All these external body robes, symbols, and other paraphernalia are nothing but a pompous show of false ego-sense or stubborn mind. The true devotion is but a journey within."

Our time on earth is brief. Every man has been allotted a fixed number of days here on earth. And none of us will live one minute beyond the time that God has already given each one of us.
What really matters is how are we living out the days that God has numbered for us? What are we doing with our time? Are we wasting it by making unwise decisions, or is our life producing fruit that will make this rare human birth worthwhile. And therefore seek wisdom at the earliest. Seek God. Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.
"Kabir says, the flower buds started bustling about as they saw the gardener coming towards them. He plucked the bloomed and left those who are still not ready for tomorrow. Our life is no different. One whose time is over dies while those who still have time left, await, for none of us will escape death. It is an appointment that we all will keep. It can not be cancelled nor avoided.

"Kabir says, 'Dharma' is a path of righteousness whose observance enables humans to be contented and happy and to save himself from degradation and suffering. The root of 'Dharma' is compassion, a virtuous feeling generated in the mellowness of the heart. God is the very personification of compassion. Any thought, word or act considered immoral, selfish, shameful, harmful or alienating is the root of all suffering.
Forbearance ('Kshama') is the inherent virtue of soul. Forbearance is the conduct of a man who does not get the least enraged even on finding obvious reasons for exciting anger. Humanity is never more beautiful than when praying for forgiveness, or else forgiving another.
While vanity or excessive pride in one's own appearance or achievements is sufficient to bring downfall, passions are sufficient to bring bondage of soul, Forgiveness alone is enough to attain the Divinity, the state of being Divine."

Lust is the strong, passionate desire for something: not only sex, but also, among others, food, drink, money, fame, power, or knowledge. Even so, owing to the historical resonance lust has come to be associated almost exclusively with sexual desire. It is the ‘excessive love of others’, excessive in that it rivals and surpasses even the love of God.
God created sexuality. He created it good and beautiful. He created it for the good of his creatures. He alone has the wisdom and the right to show us how to use it for his glory and our good. Lust is what that sexual desire becomes when we give it rein in disregard for God. It’s the corruption of a good thing by the absence of honorable commitment and by the absence of a supreme regard for God.
"Kabir says, the passion of lust and the love for God are as mutually exclusive as the day and night that cannot dwell together."

"The mind is very restless, turbulent, strong and obstinate. It is restless because it keeps flitting in different directions, from subject to subject. It is turbulent because it creates upheavals in one's consciousness in the form of hatred, anger, lust, greed, envy, anxiety, fear, attachment etc. It is strong because it overpowers the intellect with its vigorous currents. The mind is also obstinate because when it catches a harmful thought, it refuses to let go, and continues to ruminate over it again and again, even to the dismay of the intellect.
"Kabir says, the fickle mind is often waggish in nature, humorous in a playful, mischievous manner. Frivolous things intrigue the mind more than the deep rooted things like wisdom and contemplation. The wayward mind wanders hither and thither. It is very difficult to fasten it on one fixed point such as is needed in devotion to God. And so when the mind is forced to walk on the path of devotion where One Pointedness is so much needed, it resists."

The one who is able to meet a genuine Guru is truly blessed with the Grace of God. 'Guru Krupa', the Grace of a Guru is something that no words can express and is beyond the comprehension of the material mind. Guru is always gracious and kind to us, for he can do nothing else other than grace the souls. The day a soul truly realises and accepts this fact, it will become God-realised.
Unlimited charity may be bestowed by a generous-hearted donor who calls upon all who are in need to come and take. But not all the wealth of the world will be of any avail to an indigent one if he will not avail himself of this great opportunity and become a receiver. And therefore “Seek and it shall be found; knock and it shall open to you; ask and it shall be given.” It is not as though there is any dearth of Divine Grace or Guru Krupa. Light is not lacking, but then we have to seek and we have to knock, and having done it we must be ready to receive. If this is present, then Guru Krupa works all wonders; it will flow into us and raise us to the highest realm of immortality, eternal light and infinite bliss.
A devotee may get the blessings of a saint, the grace of a saint. He may also be blessed and partake of the power of his compassion; but, for the attainment of the gift of Guru Krupa, we have first to be disciples.
Guru Krupa showers upon the disciple who tries his level best to carry out the teachings of the Guru and has a great desire to be free from ignorance and attain illumination. Unless there is this willingness, this deep eagerness to attain illumination, the disciple is no disciple. A hundred Gurus cannot help unless the disciple has a great desire for liberation and is seeking to get rid of that which stands in the way.
"Kabir says, when the disciple of Guru works in service to the Guru and is dedicated to the spiritual path, the Guru bestows His Grace upon him that cleanses all the filth within. A crow turns into a Royal Swan. In other words a miracle happens - the miracle of spiritual transformation and spiritual rebirth."

Only one who has renounced can truly love. In love there is no other need. Renunciation is having no need.
You love the person, but you renounce possessiveness; you love the person but you renounce jealousy; you love the person but you don't want to make a slave out of him; you love the person but you respect his freedom; you love the person but your love does not become an imprisonment. You love, and yet you remain unattached. You love, you love intensely, but still you don't cling - that is true renunciation.
Love the world and don't be attached. Be in the world, but don't be of the world - that is what true renunciation is.
"Kabir says, love is not something that can be cultivated in farm and neither it can be traded in market. Only renunciation can sustain love and joy. True love is non-possessive and brings freedom, and renunciation is nothing but freedom. Only in freedom can love fully blossom. Without renunciation love turns into misery, possessiveness, jealousy and anger."

Life once asked death “why do people love me, but fear you?”
Death replied “Because you are a beautiful lie, and I am the harsh truth"
Lies can be far more comforting to accept for some. There is much truth to the saying “ignorance is bliss". There’s a feeling of security and happiness in not accepting things for how they really, truly are, for the truth can hurt.
The greatest wonder of the world is that though death is the ultimate reality and it spares no one, every one supposes that it's about others not about him.
Under Maya's influence the illusioned soul identifies with the temporary body and everything connected to it. Under the sense of this false identity it aspires to control and enjoy matter serving lust, greed and anger and in doing so only falls deeper into illusion.
The fatal attraction that makes the illusioned soul mistakenly identify with the temporary body is so overwhelming that man prefers ignorance as bliss than accepting the truth that no matter how much he may care, he can't do anything about the gradual yet unstoppable withering of his body as time goes by.
"Kabir says, a world blinded by ignorance is like a blind cow licking the skin of a dead calf. Every being in this world has an irresistible attraction to the things that are perishable, for Lies attract more than the Uncomfortable Truths."

The desire to find true happiness in worldly objects is only a mirage. Maya, the pleasures of this world like a shadow eludes those who chase it.
A lonely traveler or an animal in a parched and hot desert sees the waters of mirage at a close distance, moving like a river, having waves, and even the sun reflecting on the water surface! The deluded mind then goes chasing it in that direction, lured on and on, but finds nothing at all. Similarly a shadow eludes those who try to catch it.
Maya, or illusion, is deeply rooted in attachment. When we are attached to or have a desire for something, it becomes a source of illusion for us. Those who are free from attachments and have directed their desires toward spiritual growth are free from the bondage of Maya, the illusion.
Non-attachment and constant awareness of absolute Reality are like two wings of a bird which can fly from the plane of mortality to the height of immortality. Those who do not allow their wings to be clipped by the illusion of Maya attain perfection, living in the world but not of the world.
"Kabir says, there is a similarity between material wealth and shadow. Both run ahead of those who chase them, but follow those do not get lured by them."

"Kabir says, the world consists of the illusory duality of knowledge and ignorance. This universe is created by the Mahamaya [the inscrutable Power of Illusion] of God. Mahamaya contains both Vidyamaya, the illusion of knowledge, and Avidyamaya, the illusion of ignorance.
Both Vidya and Avidya are aspects of maya, the cosmic power of Brahman. It is the Vidya component of maya that is responsible for the generation of spiritual knowledge, through the help of which one cultivates such virtues as the taste for holy company, knowledge, devotion, love and renunciation. It is the meditation on the Self.
Avidya on the other hand is the knowledge other than that of the Self. It consists of all sciences, arts, skills, learning of languages and other disciplines, and art forms. Avidya is also the human ignorance about God's nature, by which one is perpetually deluded into doing the rounds of birth and death. This Avidya is the misidentification of real knowledge, which is one's real nature.
Ignorance is the great mother of all misery, and the fundamental ignorance is to think that
"I am a little body, I want to preserve it, to protect it, to keep it nice, at the expense of other bodies; then you and I become separate." As soon as this idea of separation comes, it opens the door to all mischief and leads to all misery.
Summing up, one must contemplate on and be aware of the Self by using both Avidya and Vidya. Through Avidya one crosses mortality and by Vidya one attains immortality. Immortality is release from births and deaths i.e., from the rise and set of egoistic mind. Egoistic mind and self-consciousness are responsible for all the disturbances the individual experiences and suffers. Thus knowledge about both Vidya and Avidya is necessary for one to meditate on the Self and live as Self in and with calmness."

जिहि घर जिता बधावना, तिहि तेता दोह II
The senses have the limited ability to perceive and discern truth, although we take them for granted and rely more on the appearances of things rather than the truth underlying them.
Calling this universe or material world false, illusion does not mean this world is non-existent. If this world was nonexistent then it would not have been experienced by us. Then is it real?
According to the scriptures, no – it is not real. Although one cannot ignore the physical reality of the innumerable variety of beings (animate) and objects (inanimate), but nothing in it can be called real because it is subject to change every moment, like our mind.
Thus, this material world is neither real nor unreal.
Anything that cannot be described as real or unreal is called illusion in Indian scriptures.
When we call this world illusion, it simply means that “what we deem it to be, it is not like that”. We think it to be permanent, it is not; we think it to be nonperishable, it is not; we think it to be changeless, it is not; we think it to be Reality, it is not…
"Kabir says, Maya is the imagination of the deluded mind which never ends and never exists! Thus, it continually baffles humanity making the mirage-like attractions of the enchanting world appear as real (permanent, everlasting etc.)
No matter how joyful and materially rich the household may be, there is often an equal amount of sorrow and sufferings in the backdrop."

"Kabir says, True nishkam bhakti or completely selfless devotion means loving God without any trace of selfish desires. Even when we love God only with the purpose of His darshan (vision) so that He may grant us an opportunity to serve Him, there is a subtle and implied selfishness in this act. It is our desire to serve Him on our terms and so we seek His blessings. Nishkam bhakti implies not harboring this desire; instead the desire we should harbor is to serve Him according to His wishes—as, when, and how He desires. Nishkam bhakti then means truly aligning our desires with those of Guru and God. So this means that we are grateful and humbled if God chooses to bestow His presence upon us. If He does not, we should not get disheartened. Instead we should have faith that He will bestow His darshan when the time is right; until then we should continue with our practice of nishkam bhakti under the guidance of a true Guru. A completely selfless devotion means loving God without any trace of selfish desires. We must be cognizant of our selfish desires and strive to sacrifice them so that we have only one desire left, Him. God who is desireless can be sought only with one desire, to seek Him and Him only."

"The ignorance provokes a desire and desires spur human action or Karma. Generally it is desire for worldly gains that makes us act. Actions (good or bad) bind beings to the endless cycle of births. And so goes on the vicious cycle.
The world in which we live is not very different from Mayasabha, the hall of illusions which Duryodhana entered. It is a giant illusion in itself, where our egos grow in strength, experience emotions and where we assume one thing for another and suffer from confusion, delusion and emotional turmoil. If Mayasabha symbolizes the world, Duryodhana symbolizes the egoistic individual (jiva) and Draupadi personifies Maya who instigates beings into different states of delusion, confusion and mental or emotional instability. Maya is ubiquitous in this world, and none is spared by it. The influence of Maya manifests in every aspect of our lives. It clouds our judgement and creates confusion and conflicting states whereby people fail to see things as they are or make wise choices.
Karma is a sum of desire ridden actions we perform and their fruit, or their cumulative influence and effect upon our lives and destinies. Karma arises from modes of Maya and remains in motion until the modes are suppressed. Both reinforce each other and involve the embodied souls in the vicious cycle of births and deaths. At the root of Karma is the evil of selfishness which arises from Maya only due to ignorance and delusion. All selfish actions, however good they may outwardly appear to be, are inherently evil and lead to sinful Karma and one's spiritual downfall.
"Kabir says, just like stars are visible in the sky only till sun rises, one remains enticed in the worldly pleasures till he realises the true purpose of his rare human birth. In other words although the souls are caught in the net of Maya, they can still escape from it with discernment, purity and spiritual practice, ensuring that the Wheel Karma does not lead them further to rebirth."

You may die wealthy but when death comes your wealth cannot stop it. A powerful man becomes powerless when death strikes, for death spares no one. Money can't even buy a peaceful death.
All the recognition and wealth man earns and of which he is very proud of, pales and becomes meaningless in the face of death.
