कबीर इस संसार में, घने मनुष मतिहीन I
राम नाम जानै नहीं, आये टापा दीन II
Having love for all human beings—including all and excluding none—is Dharma. Helping others ahead of personal gain is the Dharma of those who follow the path of selfless service. Defending nation and society is the Dharma of soldiers and warriors. However, the highest Dharma is when we perform our duties for the welfare of humanity lovingly and selflessly and, most of all, dedicate the action and its fruit to the divine. One who has attained this highest form of Dharma performs his duties in the world and yet remains above it. All his thoughts and actions become a part of Dharma. His whole life is a field of Dharma.
"Kabir says, Dharma has been a great force in uplifting the human race. Dharma can help us today as it did in ancient times, but only if we start living the truth, not merely believing in it. Turning away from Dharma and distancing ourselves from the truth takes away our peace of mind and leads to misery. In the practice of Dharma, we are advised to shed the veil of ignorance and practice truthfulness in our thoughts, speech, and actions.
While people often confuse 'Dharma' with justice or with obedience to the lord, it actually means discovering your humanity and how human you are. It is to keep expanding our consciousness, keep learning and growing consistently and help others along the way as well. The highest Dharma is performing our duties for the welfare of humanity and dedicating our actions to the divine."

कबीर सुपनैं रैनि कै, पारस जीय मैं छेक I
जे सोऊँ तौ दोइ जनाँ, जे जागूँ तौ एक II
The idea of separateness arises when, in ignorance, we think that we are the individuals, that there is the world and that there is God beyond the cosmos. But in reality, neither God nor the universe nor the cosmos is separate from us. It is the man's conditioned consciousness, limited state of understanding, vanities, self-conceit, false ego or false "I-ness" that forms the sense of separateness from the Source. This separation is none other than duality or "two-ness."
For the wave to think it is separate from the ocean is its ignorance. In reality, the wave and the ocean are just the same water. There is no difference, although they appear to be different. The difference is created by the name and form only. It is only when the wave identifies itself with the name and form and assumes itself to be separate. In the same way, when the false "I" identifies with the body-mind, it sees the objective world of names and forms, and mistakenly takes itself to be separate from the Ultimate Truth. But in reality, there is "no-two". All Consciousness is one, a Homogenous Oneness. In other words, when the Consciousness identifies with the name, form, time, space, color and attributes, it itself causes the sense of separateness.
"Kabir says, Ignorance gives rise to duality, a sense of "two-ness." The whole experience of duality, made up of perceiver and perceived, is pure imagination. There is no ignorance apart from the mind. Just like in the dreaming state, the dream appears to be true to the dreamer. However, on waking he realizes that it was just a passing dream! On account of conditioned consciousness due to false ego-sense, the mirage-like phenomenal world of names and forms appears to be reality when it is not. Wisdom leads to unity, but ignorance to separation. So long as God seems to be outside and far away, there is ignorance. But when God is realised within, that is true knowledge. Behind all multiplicity of this manifold universe, the One Unconditioned Consciousness persists in all its splendor. That One Homogeneous whole is the Changeless in changing phenomena. All forms emerge out of this One Reality, remain sustained by this Reality, and ultimately merge back into this Reality. The skillful living is to identify the Homogeneous Oneness within and yet play in the outer world of plurality with no emotional attachment, living in the world but not of the world."

"This physical world, and all the experiences associated with it is an illusion like a nightly dream. While in the dreaming state, the dream appears to be true to the dreamer. However, on waking he realises that it was just a passing dream. On account of conditioned consciousness (false ego-sense), the mirage-like phenomenal world of names and forms appears in the living entity. Each person experiences within himself whatever his desires and related fears has given rise to. In reality, this world appearance is nothing but a long dream, which appears to be permanent (or real) to the conditioned consciousness. Kabir wants to Awaken us from this dream state. Why? Because the ephemeral nature of our existence should make us ponder about what is really worthwhile to pursue in this dream world. Kabir asks us not to get attached and run after this dream-like world appearance. Because, to run after this 'Time bound' phenomena would be to deny the 'Timelessness.' In other words, Kabir urges us to ‘be in the world but not of the world!’

"Kabir says, the human life is the farmland. The birds of desires roving through the cropland have devastated most of it in the absence of guard 'Reason.' Wake up from the slumber of ignorance and save whatever remains of the farmland before all is lost. Among all the living species, only human beings are most fit to attain God Realisation. It is so difficult to obtain this human body; it does not just come over and over again. It is like the ripe fruit on the tree; when it falls to the ground, it cannot be re-attached to the branch. Are we really living and using this human life any better than animals? Or are we foolishly wasting it away chasing frivolous material pursuits?
There are two kinds of forces in the mind, viz., hostile or antagonistic force and friendly or favourable force. Passion is hostile force that drags you down. Pure reason is a favourable force that elevates you and transmutes you into Divinity. Develop, therefore pure reason to get unalloyed Bliss. The passion will die itself."

Lord Shree Krishna said to Arjun, “Do your duty with your body, and keep your mind attached to Me.” As a warrior, Arjun must fight; that is his duty. However, the Lord says to Arjun that even in the middle of a battle, one should remember God.
Kabir says, the same thing is true for everyone—be it farmers, engineers, doctors, students, homemakers, or any other professional, a constant remembrance of God while doing any and all work. Do your worldly duties, but your mind should always be thinking of God. The very instant we forget God, our mind is taken over by the mighty commanders of Maya’s army—desire, envy, greed, lust, anger, hatred, etc. Therefore, it is necessary that we keep our mind always attached to God. The constant remembrance of God's name gives a wakefulness to the person who is engaged in it.
While it is true that karmic consequences cannot be avoided, it is also true that constant remembrance of God's name can mitigate its ill-effects, sometimes to appear as even miraculous."

Maya means that the world is not as it seems; the world that one experiences is misleading as far as its true nature is concerned. The world is both real and unreal because it exists but is 'not what it appears to be'. Because of Maya we identify ourselves with our minds and bodies, or with our names and forms, and ignore our spiritual nature. As a result, we do not perceive God in the diversity of the world. We go by what we perceive and try to secure our lives with worldly possessions and selfish actions. It is the Maya that lures us to accept the temporary as having lasting value, and looking for enduring happiness in this world.
"Kabir says, remember you are made of dust and to dust you shall return. The body we so much identify ourself with is as fragile as a paper packet. Accumulation of worldly possessions could not be the sole purpose of our existence because we came into this world with nothing and we leave with nothing.
To see the world as Maya means to look through that Maya to the Divine presence behind it, through which its wonder, delight and transformational power unfolds. We must learn to look beyond the illusion of multiplicity to the One Being, the inner Self that shines radiant through all."

Impermanence is the uncertain and temporary nature of much of what we regard as reality. It is the phenomenon in life that everything comes to an end, and that nothing lasts forever. Nothing is free from this constant flow of life. Everything from our emotions to our thoughts and feelings, from the cells in our bodies to the plants around us, is changing and decaying continuously. Even our views change and evolve as we grow.
It is not impermanence that makes us suffer. What makes us suffer is wanting things to be permanent when they are not.
"Kabir says, pride over body and it's beautification is futile, for this body is as short lived as a house of highly inflammable lacquer. We must utilize every moment of this precious human birth to connect with the Supreme Creator before body will mingle with dust, and grass will grow on top of it."

Reincarnation is the religious or philosophical belief that the soul after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life's actions. The entire universal process, that gives rise to the cycle of death and rebirth, is governed by Karma, one's deeds. “Karma” is action, which may be good or bad. Based on the type of Karma one does, he chooses his subsequent birth. To be trapped in the cycle of birth and death is a result of ignorance of the true nature of our existence, the ignorance that leads to ego-consciousness, grounding one in desire and a perpetual chain of reincarnation.
The whole of material creation can be likened to a rehabilitation center meant for helping a soul to rediscover its Divine nature. One of creation’s mechanisms to help facilitate a soul’s spiritual development is Karma, the concept that every thought and action has a corresponding reaction.
"Kabir says, to be born as a human being is no small privilege. Birth is caused by desires and actions, and birth becomes the cause of further desires and actions. This present life is, therefore, meant to train the individual to qualify himself for a higher life. You came alone to this world and also you will pass away alone from this world. None will help you except what you have done here in this life. Your deeds will search you out and follow you, as calves follow their mothers even in the midst of a big herd. Your life is short and there are many obstacles to get over. Therefore, exert now with earnestness. Waste not precious time, but utilise every moment for the noblest of causes, God Realisation."

Everything changes and nothing lasts forever. Everything from our emotions to our thoughts and feelings, from the cells in our bodies to the plants around us, is changing and decaying continuously. Everything in material or relative existence is impermanent. That is, everything has a beginning, a middle, and, most definitively, an ending. Life is perpetually in flux and change is an inevitable constant. It may seem paradoxical, but embracing impermanence can be a great gift. Indeed, it can be one of life’s great wake-up calls. No matter how we try to escape it, the reality of impermanence will eventually catch us and force us to deal with it. When we allow ourselves to consciously recognize the impermanence of all things, we appreciate life more and we have more joy and gratitude for this precious human lifetime in which we can connect with others and expand our love and compassion.
"Kabir says, on funeral pyre bones burn like dry wood, hair burn like grass on fire. Seeing the body turning into ash makes us acutely aware of the transient nature of objects, situations, people, and relationships. Anything that we cling to persistently can cause us to suffer and drain our energy. Detachment is key to making friends with impermanence; until we can release our attachments, impermanence will continue to loom like a specter over our shoulders. Impermanence is undoubtedly a challenging thing to embrace. Yet it provides us with the opportunity to awaken to the deeper reality of being that lies beyond our material existence. By exploring the insights impermanence offers us we can suffer less, and live a deeper, more fulfilling life."

"Kabir says, death is inevitable. It is law of the nature. Whosoever is born must die. Rich and poor, young and old all die, all shall have their turn. When death is unavoidable and it can come at any time, we should not entangle ourselves too much in worldly affairs as we cannot take any thing with us after death. We should avoid being proud of our wealth which may not be ours for ever. Death would not be called bad if one knows how to truly die.
This life is temporary and everyone has to leave this world sooner or later. We must live an honest life remembering God.
We spend our whole lives running from the inevitable: death. Indeed, there is nothing more sure than death itself. This realisation may be a little frightening- but it doesn’t have to be. If anything, this realisation is a pleasant wake-up call to do good- it is a constant source of guidance for us."

"Kabir says, Maya means that the world is not as it seems; the world that one experiences is misleading as far as its true nature is concerned. The world is both real and unreal because it exists but is 'not what it appears to be'.
The Maya of nature is not hard to deal with, but we prefer to ignore it because it requires a greater effort to probe behind nature’s mysteries. It is the Maya of our human world that is our main preoccupation, challenge, fascination and problem. In our social interaction, as we all know, there is much posturing, role playing, pretending or even outright deception going on. Those who are gullible and naive often find themselves taken advantage of.
In the modern world, we live in a turbulent ocean of appearances, impressions and influences. Unless we learn to probe beyond these surface waves, we are unlikely to find the truth of life and will often be deceived, not only by others but also by ourselves, as each one of us has his or her illusions about self and world as well.

Dying is certain, but the timing is not. Death is a great leveler, time brings all luxuries of life to an end. All feelings of superiority in man as only an illusion and self deception. No one can avoid death. No one can keep from dying or put off the day of death. That is a battle we cannot escape; we cannot cheat our way out. Those who are very proud of their greatness and wealth return empty-handed in the end. The greatest illusion is we mistakenly confound our real identity with the gross body. Neither ‘you’ is body, nor ‘I, me’ is body. It is something else that animates this body from within. That is the Real ‘us’ of ‘you’ and ‘me’, which is formless. From the moment we are born, death is our final destination. Death comes to all. It spares none. It treats the mighty and weak equally. Power and wealth are like short lived shadows. जम राना गढ़ भेलिसी, सुमिरि लेहु करतार II
The whole realm of humans revolves around the bodily existence. The individual being sees itself as embodied in this world of names and forms. Material body by itself is inert. Without the soul that enlivens it, this body is nothing more than nine holes in the flesh and bones. These holes are two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, one mouth, one genital, and one anus. Mind is the ringleader as it sits on top of all. Free to escape through the corrupted holes, the deluded mind limits the Truth, and binds the beings to bondage of worldly hallucination. Through the corrupted sense of sight, man lusts after material objects; through the corrupted sense of hearing, man craves to hear the slow poison of flattery and other sounds that rouse his material nature; through the corrupted sense of smell, he is enticed toward wrong environments and actions; through the corrupted sense of taste, he is lured to consume such food and drink that destroy his physical and mental well being; and contaminated sense of touch lusts him for indulgence in physical comforts and lust. Man's senses lead by his ego are beguiled by sensual pleasures of lust, anger, greed and emotional attachment. In other words the polluted holes or senses cause us into the pitch darkness of spiritual ignorance.
The ultimate aim of human life is to realise the mysterious Tenth Gate which lies beyond the external nine holes of our body fortress. Within this Tenth Gate, dwells the Primal Being, detached and unequaled. This unknowable reveals Himself to those who discipline the nine holes of their body. One attains Immortality by controlling pulsating desires and fear; and by forgetting all selfishness and possessiveness. Eliminating egoism — lust, anger, greed, attachment, false pride, enviousness one is liberated from the nine gates, and becomes situated in the Tenth Gate.
"Kabir says, mistaken be not of this body however invincible it may seem, for this fragile body-fortress made up of water, plastered with blood and wrapped in skin has nine doors but the doors have no shutters. It is supported by pillars of wind (the channels of the breath.) Just like a ship with holes is bound to sink, a body (ship) with impure senses (holes) is bound to doom. The only way to plug these holes or to put it otherwise render our senses purified and sanctified is by meditating on God's name before the body fortress collapses against the onslaught of death."

सबही ऊभा मेल्हि गया, राव रंक सुलतान II
Despite our most careful planning, the Road of Life is unpredictable.
While we go about planning our days and lives, we sometimes learn that God or the universe or whatever we call our higher power has another plan for us. Our best-laid plans in life can be upended by unexpected changes, which could be either disappointing or exhilarating. Personal or other setbacks, losses of loved ones, illnesses or accidents, broken hearts or tortured souls, are not uncommon occurrences in our lives. Downturns are not permanent defeats, and successes are not ultimate triumphs. How we face our setbacks, with resilience, and accept our successes, with grace, are important measures of our worth as individuals.
"In this composition Kabir talks about man's frantic yet futile effort of embracing uncertainty of future. The next moment is guaranteed to no one, yet man never fails to make big plans. It is so aptly said, "Man makes plans....and God laughs." No matter who makes plans for future, a King or a pauper, for eventually everything in the world is time bound, nothing lasts forever."

"Kabir says, nothing is forever, neither joy nor sorrow. Human life is an endless interplay of joy and sorrow, a mixture of ups and downs, trials and tribulations, pains and pleasure. Don't let yesterday's sorrows keep you from cherishing the moments of joy today. And also yesterday's happiness make you forget that every day brings new challenges. Gone are the empires on which sun never set, for yesterday's glory may turn into today's ruins. Sooner or later, every last echo fades. Even the loudest thunder in the deepest valley.
Accepting that all circumstances are subject to change, both from bad to better and from good to worse, helps us manage life’s ups and downs. The one thing we can be sure of in life is that everything changes, often summed up in the familiar phrase, “This too shall pass."

There are memories or impressions, the subtle traces or Vasanas of events- not only of the present life but also of events of multiple past lives the individual soul carries with it when the soul separates itself from the physical body upon the death of a person. They condition our sense and experiences.
Vasanas are subconscious inclinations, likes and dislikes, which drive habit-patterns or direct ones attitudes. It emanates from every thought, every feeling or every deed that one has done or does. The Vasanas are ego-centric in the sense they are centred on “I”.
When the individual being departs it takes with it the Casual Body that is the accumulated Vasanas, and gravitate towards a field that is conducive to ones experiences and inclinations.
"Kabir says, it is the Vasanas (desire in subtle form) that govern the body through the process of becoming thoughts, desires, and actions. The results of these actions add to your Prarabdha Karma, cumulative karmic baggage so to speak – which means more Vasanas and so goes on the vicious circle. They reside in the Causal Body, lifetime after lifetime. It is often said that you would not even incarnate were it not for your Vasanas. These latent desires become, in a sense, your reason for continuing to exist."

माली सींचे सौ घड़ा, ॠतु आए फल होय II
"Kabir says, everything on earth has its own time and its own season.Things happen for a reason, and in their own time. Patience is a person's ability to wait something out or endure something tedious, without getting riled up. Many of us feel a massive urgency in life, which can show up as urgency in the moment, a need for things to happen faster than they are currently happening. But nature is not urgent, nature has a steady pace and a trust. Without urgency, things still happen, are created and grow. We can learn so much from this. If we keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other, stepping into what’s next, things will continue to happen, be created, grow and change. The tree doesn't get impatient with the cycle of growth, for it bears fruits only in the season, no matter how plentifully it is watered."

जहाँ दया तहाँ धर्म है, जहाँ लोभ तहाँ पाप I
जहाँ क्रोध तहाँ पाप है, जहाँ क्षमा तहाँ आप II
"Kabir says, more than just the race of humankind humanity implies the quality to be humane, an ability to love and have compassion, be creative and not to be a robot or an alien. It is the human behaviour that cares for other humans because of a profound and universally held conviction that to live well means being treated humanely in relationships of mutual respect. The essence of all religions is love, compassion, and tolerance. Kindness is the true religion.
Greed is native to human hearts. One of the deadly sins, 'Greed' is the immoderate love or desire for riches and earthly possessions. A person can also be greedy for fame, attention, power, or anything else that feeds one's selfishness.
Greed as “never enough” is the drive to strive for more. Restless humans, pursuing their hierarchy of needs, with basic needs already fully in their grip, grasp for more, grope for more of the material. That restless quest describes the human condition. The desires of the greedy plunge them into ruin and destruction. Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.
Destructive is anger to every living creature and so makes a sinner of man. The anger makes one unable to distinguish between what should be said and what should not…
No act, no word, seems taboo for the angry one and in its grip will he slay indiscriminately. Therefore the man possessing force of character should ever banish wrath to a distance. The one who forsakes ire, becomes a true possessor of zest; one who is enslaved to anger possesses but a mockery of energy; that too which fails him in the hour of need.
There are some things that we may say or do that ultimately can never be taken back no matter how many times we apologize to the one’s we hurt. Unfortunately we tend to realise the level of irreversible damage we caused only in hindsight and even more, the ones we tend to hurt the worst are the people we usually love the most. It’s so important to remember to pause and take a moment to think about the possible permanent repercussions our actions and words could have on others.
We all know the popular adage, "To err is human, to forgive is divine.”
but what does it really mean? Well, as humans, we all make mistakes – whether or not we want to admit to them is another thing entirely! However, when it comes to forgiveness, many of us would rather hold on to our hurts, our resentments and our anger than forgive the one who has done us wrong. It usually takes a Saintly Being to forgive, someone who realises that holding on to all those negative emotions only hurts them in the long run – instead of the person who committed the wrongdoing."

जाति न पूछो साधु की, पूछि लीजिए ज्ञान।
मोल करो तलवार का, पड़ा रहन दो म्यान॥
"Kabir says, the Guru is known by his wisdom and not by the religion he may belong to just like it is not the diamond studded scabbard but the sharpness of its cutting edge that makes a good sword."

लूट सके तो लूट ले, राम नाम की लूट।
पाछे फिरे पछताओगे, प्राण जाहिं जब छूट॥
"Kabir says, the human body, like any other physical thing, is subject to decay and disintegration. Even this world suffers dissolution. No one knows what tomorrow will bring or if we will be here to see it. And therefore absorb into the sweet remembrance of Lord Ram before it is too late, for the treasure trove of the Holy RamNam awaits you."
