"Kabir says, It is the man’s mind that is responsible for his problems or suffering. Also, it is the mind that can liberate him from bondage. In other words one’s mind can be his best friend, and the same time it can be one’s worse enemy too. The six enemies of mind are desire, anger, greed, ego, attachment and envy. These bind the soul to the cycle of birth and death and keep it confined in this material world. When they dominate one’s mind they control one’s life and one becomes slave of them. Under their dominance there is all possibility for a person to lose his balance of mind however learned he may be. Removing their negative dominance requires sincere efforts. Mere talk, rituals, or external show of religiosity neither will do the trick. What’s in our power is to keep them in check, under control."
