करती दीसै कीरतन, ऊँचा करि तुंड I
जाने-बुझै कुछ नहीं, यौं ही अंधा रूंड II

"Kabir says, Kirtan is singing of God’s name with feeling. It is a devotional practice that helps to uplift the mind, open the heart and bring inner peace. But for that to happen understanding the content of Kirtan is more important than merely presenting it in a loud voice. It is better in Kirtan to have a heart without words than words without heart. Those who perform Kirtan as a ritual are no less than a blind or a headless."
