कोटि करम कटि पलक में, रंचक आवै राम I
जुग अनेक जो पुन्य करू, नहीं राम बिनू ठाम II

While it is often tempting to take credit for a given outcome, especially if it a good one, the truth is that we have no control over the effects of any karma-induced action or reaction. It is an inexorable system of justice, often working over several lifetimes.
Human life is in the grasp of Prarabdha (Destiny). It cannot be changed and has no alternative other than facing the consequences; even the spiritually evolved have to face the consequences to exhaust it. However by  chanting Ram Naam performed with intense yearning, prarabdha becomes tolerable and can be overcome.

"Kabir says, for those who are absorbed in Ram Naam, sinful reactions, whether fructified, in the stock, or in the form of a seed, gradually vanish. Good deeds over several lifetimes is not enough if it is devoid of Ram Naam."
