गुरू गोविंद दोऊ खडे, काके लागूं पाय I
बलिहारी गुरू आपने, गोविन्द दियो बताय II

Who is more important — Guru or God?
Kabir says, the Guru shows the way, paves the way, and it is the Guru that takes the disciple to God. There is a Goal, but if somebody doesn't take him to that Goal — that somebody being his Guru— then God will always remain a far cry. He says, the Goal may be there, but who is taking me to the Goal? I can't go alone; I don't know the road and neither the Goal will not come to me. So Guru's role is crucial. And therefore between Guru and God, when it comes to whose feet we must touch first, the precedence must go to Guru because the Guru shows us the path – the path to live a meaningful life and to attain the true purpose of this rare human birth, God Realization."
