जो जल बढे नाव में, घर में बाढे दाम I
दोनों हाथ उलीचिये, यही सयानों काम II

While there are those who do charity to acquire fame, the true philanthropist give away his wealth for purely altruistic purpose.

"Kabir says, when water seeps into a boat, a man in the boat throws out as much water as he can with both hands. But he does this only to save his life. A Wise however donates his wealth wholeheartedly for the betterment of mankind."
