गुरू कुम्हार शिष कुंभ है, गढि-गढ काढै खोट I
अंतर हाथ सहार दै, बाहर बाहै चोट II

"Kabir says, a Guru is like a Pot-maker. A Pot-maker makes sure that the pot becomes strong inside out. Just like a Pot-maker hammers the pot from outside with one hand, with the other he supports it from inside, a Guru being a perfect confluence of discipline and love makes his disciple strong to take on the challenges of life, while inculcating in him the noble virtues of a good human being."
