II श्रीराम जय राम जय जय राम II

गुरू नाम है गम्य का, शीष सीख ले सोय I
बिनु पद बिनु मरजाद नर, गुरुशीष नही कोय II

"In this composition Kabir elucidates how to recognize Guru and Disciple in the truer sense. He says, A true Guru is not an ordinary spiritual teacher, but one who has attained union with God and is therefore qualified to lead others to that goal. The Guru- Disciple relationship is a majestic, and a loftiest relationship based on the Guru’s unconditional love for the disciple and loyal spiritual endeavour by the disciple in the path of attaining his true nature. It bears no taint of selfish considerations. It is an eternal contact backed up by reverence, faith, and loyalty in a way to attain God Realisation. Mere study of books cannot make one a Guru. One who has the  direct knowledge of Supreme Reality through Realisation can only be called as a Guru. A living liberated sage is the real Guru or spiritual preceptor. He is the Sadguru. He is identical with Brahman or the Supreme Self. He is a Knower of Brahman. The Sadguru is Brahman Himself. He is the fountain of joy. A Guru is the one who brings light and wisdom into the dark, cavern hearts of the bound souls. He is the liberator, who illuminates the minds and hearts of the ignorant. The essence of the Guru is to remove the ignorance that is the cause of bondage, sorrow and suffering. And the essence of the disciple is a keen eagerness, a great desire to be free from ignorance–the essential nature of which is ego–and attain illumination. Unless there is this willingness, this deep eagerness to attain illumination, the disciple is no disciple. A hundred Gurus cannot help unless the disciple has a great desire for liberation and is seeking to get rid of that which stands in the way."
